Living in Saint-Joseph-du-Lac

The Sulpicians, seigneurs of the Lac-des-Deux-Montagnes, granted the first lands of the côte Saint-Joseph around 1780, and the parish was established in 1853. The name recalls the proximity of the Lac des Deux Montagnes, to distinguish the place from the many other Saint-Josephs. Apple growing developed starting in the 1880s, to the point that the locality was given the title “Kingdom of the Apple.” In 1953, the southern part broke away to form Pointe-Calumet, and Highway 640, built in the 1970s, fuelled residential growth.
