Living in Vaudreuil-Dorion

The seigneury of Vaudreuil was granted in 1702 to Philippe de Rigaud de Vaudreuil, the future governor of New France, whose name it bears. The arrival of the Grand Trunk railway in the 1850s gave rise to a village near the station, which separated from Vaudreuil in 1891 under the name Dorion, in honour of Chief Justice Sir Antoine-Aimé Dorion. The cities of Vaudreuil and Dorion merged on March 16, 1994. Bordered by Lac des Deux Montagnes and the Ottawa River, the city today combines historic heritage, such as the Saint-Michel church and the Trestler House, newer residential neighbourhoods and eight industrial parks.
