The area, first known as Pointe-à-Cavagnol, developed around a glassworks founded in 1845 by George Matthews. In 1865, the post office took the name Hudson, in honour of his wife, Elisa Hudson. The present-day city was born in June 1969 from the merger of the villages of Hudson, Hudson Heights and Como. Bordered by the Lac des Deux Montagnes, it is known for its country feel, its large waterfront homes, its cultural life and a community where English and French live side by side.
