Living in Saint-Lazare

For a long time part of the seigneury of Vaudreuil, the territory of Saint-Lazare, with its sandy soil ill-suited to farming, remained almost uninhabited until the arrival of the first settlers, who came from New England in 1812, followed by English and French-Canadian settlers. The parish municipality was established in 1875, and Saint-Lazare obtained city status in 2001. Heavily wooded, its territory includes the Pinière forest to the east and a trail network enjoyed by hikers, skiers and horseback riders. Along with Hudson, the city is known for its long equestrian tradition, and its residential neighbourhoods, such as Saddlebrook, Chanterel and the Vallée Chaline, sit alongside large wooded properties.
