Pincourt occupies the western part of Île Perrot, at the mouth of the Ottawa River, across from Vaudreuil-Dorion, from which it is separated by the Quinchien rapids. Its name, mentioned since the late 18th century, is said to evoke a stand of low pines that served as a landmark for travellers. The area first developed around a mission founded in 1890 and then separated from Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot in the mid-20th century; the City takes 1960 as its founding year. Having become a residential suburb with the developments of the 1960s, Pincourt has bilingual city status and protects natural environments rich in biodiversity, such as ponds and marshes.
