L'Île-Perrot occupies the north of Île Perrot, along the Sainte-Anne rapids that separate it from Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue and Senneville. The island was granted in 1672 to François-Marie Perrot, Governor of Montreal, and the Brucy area recalls Antoine de La Frenaye de Brucy, who operated a trading post with him. First incorporated in 1855 under the name Sainte-Jeanne-Chantal-de-l'Isle-Perrot, the municipality took the name L'Île-Perrot in 1946 and gained city status in 1955. Connected to the Island of Montreal by the Galipeault Bridge, this human-scale city focuses on its parks, its Guy-Godin library and its blues festival.
