Living in Sorel-Tracy

Sorel-Tracy developed at the confluence of the Rivière Richelieu and the St. Lawrence River, where Charles Huault de Montmagny had Fort Richelieu built on August 13, 1642; the City presents itself as the fourth-oldest city in Canada. The seigneury, granted in 1672, bears the name of Pierre de Saurel, captain of the Carignan-Salières regiment, while Tracy, which became a city in 1954, recalls the Marquis de Tracy. The two cities merged in 2000 to form Sorel-Tracy. Heir to a long tradition of shipbuilding, steelmaking and metalworking, it is today the economic, industrial and cultural capital of the MRC de Pierre-De Saurel.
