Living in Laval

Laval was born in 1965 from the merger of the fourteen municipalities of Île Jésus. The third-largest city in Quebec by population, it stretches between the Rivière des Prairies to the south and the Rivière des Mille Îles to the north. Since the arrival of the metro in 2007, the south of the island, around Chomedey, Laval-des-Rapides and Pont-Viau, has lived at the rhythm of Montreal, while the east and north, toward Saint-François and Sainte-Rose, have kept greener areas and even farmland. An urban centre is developing around the Montmorency station, Carrefour Laval and Centropolis.

Why Laval

What draws people here

The metro and the train

Three Orange Line stations connect the south of the island with downtown Montreal, and the exo train serves the De la Concorde, Vimont and Sainte-Rose stations.

Two rivers

To the north, the Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles can be explored by canoe or kayak; in Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, the Centre de la nature occupies a former quarry.

Fourteen sectors

Chomedey, Laval-des-Rapides, Vimont, Sainte-Rose, Duvernay or Sainte-Dorothée: each area has its own properties, from the condo near the metro to the waterfront home.

Our favourite spot in Laval

Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles

Nature

In the north of the island, in Sainte-Rose, this park protects islands and shorelines of the Rivière des Mille Îles. It can be explored by canoe, by kayak or on its trails, just minutes from residential neighbourhoods.

“When buyers are torn between Laval and the North Shore, I suggest a kayak outing in the Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles: in just a few paddle strokes, you discover a peaceful Laval that you never see from the highway.”
