Living in Sherbrooke

Sherbrooke developed at the confluence of the Magog and Saint-François rivers, a source of hydraulic power that drew factories and textile mills starting in the 19th century. A regional hub of the Estrie, the city has been organized into four boroughs since 2017, from the rural Brompton sector to Lennoxville, with its Anglophone heritage. Two universities, the Université de Sherbrooke and Bishop's University, as well as the Cégep de Sherbrooke, attract a large student population every year. Students and young professionals mix here with families and retirees drawn by the services of a big city on a human scale.

Sherbrooke Museum of Nature and Science

Housed since 2002 in the former Julius Kayser silk stocking factory, built in 1915, the museum presents interactive exhibits on wildlife, flora and science. It is a lovely way to discover both Quebec's nature and the industrial past of downtown.

“I love the idea of a science museum occupying a former silk stocking factory: it's all Sherbrooke, a manufacturing city that reinvented itself around knowledge.”
