Magog was built where the Magog River flows out of Lac Memphrémagog, a location that first attracted industry. From the late 19th century through much of the 20th, the local economy was dominated by textiles, notably with Dominion Textile. Since the 2002 merger with the Township of Magog and the village of Omerville, the city combines a lively town centre with large, more rural areas. The lake and nearby Mount Orford have made it a sought-after summer destination for families, retirees and second-home owners.
