Living in Austin

Austin is named after Nicholas Austin, who brought the first settlers, mostly Quakers from New Hampshire, starting in 1796. The municipality stretches along the western shore of Lac Memphrémagog, in a landscape of hills and forests. Its heritage roads, which have appeared on maps since 1825, are lined with barns and period homes. Year-round residents, retirees and owners of secondary residences all live here.
