Saint-Roch-de-l'Achigan stretches along both sides of the rivière de l'Achigan, about forty kilometres northeast of Montreal. Settlers, mostly from L'Assomption and Mascouche, established themselves there around 1750, and Pierre-Roch de Saint-Ours de l'Eschaillon had a seigneurial mill built in 1771. The parish, whose registers begin in 1787, takes its name from his son Paul-Roch de Saint-Ours, seigneur of the area at the time of its founding. Known for a time simply as Saint-Roch, the municipality reverted to its original name in 1957. Largely agricultural, especially horticultural, it now attracts new residents thanks to its proximity to Montreal and Highway 25.
