Saint-Colomban was settled starting in 1819–1821 by Irish families, to whom the Sulpicians granted lots in the former seigneury of Lac-des-Deux-Montagnes. The parish was established in 1836, and the cemetery still holds many Irish headstones. The town has grown dramatically, going from just 301 residents in 1961 to more than 17,700 in 2021. It appeals above all to families looking for wooded lots near Saint-Jérôme and Mirabel.
