Coaticook takes its name from the Coaticook River, an Abenaki word that would mean “river lined with white pines.” The city is the centre of an agricultural MRC with numerous dairy farms, and its famous dairy, founded in 1940, produces ice cream and cheese there. The townships of Barnston and Barford merged with it in 1998. Families, workers in the agricultural and industrial sectors, and retirees who appreciate a human-scale city live here.
