With just over 2 km², Charlemagne is a small, dense city located near the confluence of the Rivière des Prairies, the Rivière des Mille Îles, the Rivière L'Assomption and the St. Lawrence River. Born around a sawmill established around 1870, it was tied to the lumber industry for more than sixty years, before taking the name Charlemagne in 1907 and city status in 1969. It is known as the birthplace of Céline Dion, after whom a boulevard has been named since 2007, and of Camille Laurin. First-time buyers, families and retirees appreciate the proximity of Montreal and the services of Repentigny.
