Saint-Pie developed along the Rivière Noire, where a man named Beauregard set up a sawmill in 1795. First called Village-Bistodeau, in honour of the merchant Joseph Bistodeau, who had donated the land for the church, the place became the parish of Saint-Pie, canonically erected in 1828 and civilly in 1835. The village and the parish, long separate, merged on February 28, 2003 to form the present-day city. Often called Saint-Pie-de-Bagot, in memory of the former county of Bagot, the city is now known well beyond the country’s borders for its furniture industry.

In the hamlet of Émileville, a monument designed by artist Richard Lebeau from remnants of the old dam pays tribute to the pioneers of Saint-Pie's old mills. Interpretive panels and period photos tell the story of the mills, which operated from 1818 to 1969, in a park with a picnic area.
