Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle occupies the southeast of the Jardins-de-Napierville, on the border with New York State, and covers more than 112 km². Its name honours Bernard-Claude Panet, the 12th Archbishop of Quebec, and recalls the former seigneury of Lacolle; the municipality was incorporated in 1855. The border crossing, at the end of Highway 15, is one of the busiest between Quebec and the United States. The Rivière Lacolle flows through a mainly agricultural territory that is home to farmers, families and outdoor enthusiasts.
