The borough includes Île Bizard, granted as a seigneury to Jacques Bizard in 1678, and the village of Sainte-Geneviève, on the Island of Montreal, linked by the Jacques-Bizard Bridge. Long agricultural, the island began to urbanize with the arrival of the Royal Montreal Golf Club in 1959. Sainte-Geneviève has kept heritage buildings along boulevard Gouin, including its church designed by Thomas Baillairgé. It is home mostly to families and retirees drawn by the large lots, the water and the nature.
