Westmount extends along the southwest slope of Mount Royal, which explains its name, adopted around 1895. An enclave city within Montreal, it was merged in 2002 and reconstituted in 2006. Since 1916, it was the first in Canada to establish a local architecture and planning committee, which preserved its built environment. Both established families in Haut-Westmount and professionals who want to walk downtown live there.
