A parish separated from Sainte-Martine in 1848 and a municipality since 1855, Saint-Urbain-Premier is named after Pope Urban I. Its village core, at the crossroads of Routes 205 and 207, sits on high ground overlooking farmland. Nearly the entire territory is in an agricultural zone, with dairy and grain farms, sugar maple groves and vineyards; the municipality is also the most heavily forested in its MRC. The Rivière des Fèves and the Rivière de l'Esturgeon run through it, and most people live in single-family homes.
