Formerly called Sainte-Philomène, the town took the name of Honoré Mercier in 1968, premier of Quebec from 1887 to 1891. It stretches on both sides of Route 138, between Châteauguay and Sainte-Martine, with residential neighbourhoods surrounded by farmland. Its nine parks, including parc Loiselle and parc des Hirondelles, anchor neighbourhood life. Many young families and people who work in the Montreal area live here.
