Living in Mont-Laurier

Established on the banks of the Rivière du Lièvre, at a spot known as Rapide-de-l'Orignal, the village became Mont-Laurier in 1909 in honour of Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier, and then a city in 1950. In 2003, the city merged with the neighbouring municipality of Des Ruisseaux, giving it a vast territory that also includes areas such as Saint-Jean-sur-le-Lac and Val-Limoges. A crossroads between the Laurentians, the Outaouais and Abitibi, the city lives off forestry, road transport, agriculture, tourism and public services. Families, health care, education and industry workers, and retirees who enjoy the lakes and the forest live here.

“I like the idea that a bike path links Saint-Jérôme with the Mont-Laurier station: it’s a reminder that this city sits at the end of a corridor that shaped the entire Laurentians.”
