Living in Blainville

Blainville is named after Jean-Baptiste Céloron de Blainville, third seigneur of the seigneury from which it grew, and separated from Sainte-Thérèse-de-Blainville in 1968. Today it is the most populous city in the MRC de Thérèse-De Blainville, at the crossroads of Highways 15 and 640. A large part of its territory occupies the former site of the Plan Bouchard, a federal Second World War munitions complex that has since become a network of woodlands and residential neighbourhoods. Families, daily commuters and first-time buyers live side by side in newer areas such as Chambéry and the Quartier de la Gare.

Our favourite spot in Blainville

Bois du Plan Bouchard

Forest and historic site

This forest of about forty hectares is crossed by a circuit of roughly 3 km, with boardwalks, panels and a micro-museum that tells the story of the Plan Bouchard munitions factory. You can still find remains of Second World War bunkers, in the heart of nature and free of charge, all year round.

“What I like about Blainville is that it has preserved and showcased the remnants of the Plan Bouchard rather than erasing them: it gives real historical depth to a city often seen as a recent suburb.”
