Founded in 1960 on the former Garth family estate, Lorraine was conceived from the outset as a residential city, with no industry and all of its public utilities buried underground. It takes its name from the French region of Lorraine, and its streets recall figures and places from French history; it is also twinned with Saint-Dié-des-Vosges. Divided into two sectors by Highway 640, it overlooks the Rivière des Mille Îles and backs onto the Grand Coteau forest. Mostly families and professionals live here, drawn by its single-family homes and green spaces.

The Garth house, built in 1833 and classified as a heritage building, serves as the town hall; its stone barn-stable is among the largest of its kind in Quebec.
The Grand Coteau forest, Lorraine park and the Garth estate offer trails close to every area.
A town with no industry and no traffic lights, Lorraine has all of its utility networks buried underground.
Forest and trails
The forest offers a 6 km main trail accessible year-round and a 2.2 km interpretive trail that runs along the Dominique-Juteau creek. It's the ideal spot for walking, running or discovering wildlife without leaving the city.
