Shefford, a township municipality in La Haute-Yamaska, completely surrounds the city of Waterloo and the village of Warden and borders Granby and Bromont. Its name comes from a township proclaimed in 1801, which took the name of an English town in Bedfordshire. Loyalist Captain John Savage settled around 1792 in West Shefford, now Bromont, and the township's letters patent were signed on February 14, 1801. Incorporated in 1845 and re-established on July 1, 1855, the municipality is dominated by Mont Shefford, one of the Monteregian Hills. Mainly residential and semi-rural, it attracts retirees and young families and is committed to protecting its landscapes.
