Living in Saint-Hippolyte

Saint-Hippolyte spreads across three former townships in the Laurentians, north of Saint-Jérôme. The territory was first established in 1855 as the municipality of the township of Abercrombie-Partie-Est, then became the parish of Saint-Hippolyte in 1951. The name is said to recall Canon Hippolyte Moreau, who was tasked in 1864 with choosing the site of the first chapel. With some sixty lakes, including Lac de l'Achigan, Lac Écho and Lac Connelly, the municipality has long attracted summer vacationers, and many cottages have become permanent residences.
