Saint-Michel is an agricultural municipality in the MRC des Jardins-de-Napierville, not to be confused with the Montreal neighbourhood of the same name. The area was formerly called La Pigeonnière, after the Pigeon family, before the parish was placed under the protection of the Archangel Saint Michael in the mid-19th century. Its fields produce mainly potatoes, carrots, blueberries and other vegetables. Farming families established here for generations live alongside households who choose village life, along Route 221.

Saint-Michel is part of the horticultural “garden” of the Jardins-de-Napierville, with numerous vegetable and small-fruit farms.
The church, built in 1855-1856 and with a bell tower that was shortened after its collapse in 1937, still dominates rue Principale.
Religious heritage
Built in 1855-1856 and attributed to architect Victor Bourgeau, the church preserves decorations painted by Toussaint-Xénophon Renaud. Acquired by the municipality in 2014, it now houses the library while remaining a place of worship.
