Founded around 1850 by English-speaking settlers of Irish origin, later joined by French-speaking families, Morin-Heights is named after Augustin-Norbert Morin, who had a farm and mills there. The town has kept its English-speaking roots in its very name and in a small-community feel, nestled between the Rivière Simon and lakes such as Lac Écho, Lac Bouchette and Lac Cook. Its ski hill and its former recording studio, Le Studio, founded in 1974 and frequented by internationally renowned artists, made its name known well beyond the Laurentians. Permanent residents, remote workers, families and second-home owners all meet here.
